Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a reactive power controller by connecting the 1st controller consisting of antiparallel-connected thyristors and the 2nd controller consisting of a series circuit of a resistance and antiparallel-connected thyristor for capacitor control in parallel. CONSTITUTION:A line impedance element 2, antiparallel-connected thyritors 3, and a capacitor 4 are connected into a series circuit, and the series circuit of a resistance 5 and antiparallel-connected thyristors 6 is connected in parallel to the thyristors 3, thus constituting a reactive power controller. A current flowing when the thyristors 3 are held open and the thyristors 6 are turned on with the capacitor 4 charged is ceased when the terminal voltage of the capacitor becomes equal to a power voltage. For this purpose, after the thyristors 3 are opened by charging the capacitor 4, the capacitor discharges itself to a circuit voltage by temporarily turning on the thyristors 6 for discharging to turn off the thyristors naturally, so that reactive power is controlled with simple constitution.
