Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the discrimination of shapes of moving objects possible with simple constitution by detecting the light of a light source disposed near the moving object reflected from the moving object with the 1st or 3rd photoelectric transducer and discriminating its shape. CONSTITUTION:Light sources 4, 5 for irradiation light in the width W direction and length L direction of objects 2 of different frequencies are provided near both sides of a conveyor 1, and detection poits P11-P13 and corresponding detection points P21-P23 of respectively prescribed spacings l1 and l2 are provided on the conveyor 1. At the detection points P11 and P21, P12 and P22, P13 and P23, the rays reflected from the object 2 are detected with photoelectric tansducers 7-9 of prescribed spacing a1, a2 and prescribed distances d1, d2 up to lenses 10, 11. In accordance with these photodetection timings, etc., the operations by the equations are accomplished, whereby the width W of the object 2 is determined. Similarly, the length L is also determined, whereby the object shape is discriminated. The same is true of objects other than a rectangular shape, thus the shapes of moving objects are discriminated with the simple constituion. In the equations, K2 is a constant, and t11, t21, etc. are the time required for passing of the object between the points P11 and P12 and between the points P21 and P22.
