Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a polymer from coloring (yellowing) by a method wherein when a specified melt-moldable arom. copolyamide is produced by a melt polymn. method, the polymn. reaction is conducted by adding a hindered phenolic heat- resisting agent.
CONSTITUTION: When a nylon salt and an equimolar mixture of an arom. diamine and an arom. dicarboxylic acid are mixed together in a predetermined ratio and the mixture is subjected to a melt copolymerization to produce a copolyamide contg. 1W50mol% arom. amide unit of the formula I [wherein X, Y are each phenylene, naphthylene, biphenylene or a group of formula II, where the bond chains of X and Y extend in the same axial direction or in a parallel axial direction to each other; ϕ is p-phenylene; Z is -O-, -S-, -SO2-, -CO-, -NH-, -CH2-, -(CH2)2-, or -C(CH2)2-], the polymn. reaction is conducted by adding a hindered phenolic heat-resisting agent [e.g., diethyl (4-hydroxy-3,5-di-t-butylphenylmethyl)-phosphonate] before the initiation of the polymn. or at the initial stage of the polymn.
