Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a polyamide with no dissipation of starting materials and easy control of MW, by reacting hexamethylenediamine with a dimethyl dicarboxylate in a high water concn. until free materials disappear, isolating and polymerizing the resulting intermediate.
CONSTITUTION: Equimolar hexamethylenediamine and dimethyl carboxylate are reacted at 110W160°C in the presence of 40W90wt% water in the reaction mixture. Next, formed methanol is removed from the mixture to leave a polyamide intermediate, which is polymerized by a conventional method. Even a trace amt. of materials is prevented from dissipating, pH control of the reaction mixture is feasible, and the degree of polymn. of the polyamide is easily controlled by this method.
