Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a highly water-soluble, high-molecular weight polymer, by polymerizing (meth)acrylamide in an aqueous solution in the presence of ethylenediamine and a specified compound.
CONSTITUTION: (Meth)acrylamide, about 0.1W10wt% adipate or tartarate and about 0.05W1wt% ethylenediamine are charged in an aqueous medium, and the mixture is polymerized below about 70°C by a thermal or photo-polymerization method. It is preferred that the concentration of (meth)acrylamide in the charged water is above about 10wt%, and the concentration of a polymerization initiator used in the thermal polymerization is in the range: about 0.01W0.5wt%.
