Abstract
PURPOSE: To economically convert blast furnace gas with relatively low calorie contg. CO into a high calorie gas having a high H2 content by reacting the blast furnace gas with steam to convert most of the CO into H2 and utilizing porous glass films.
CONSTITUTION: Blast furnace gas 1 is introduced into a heat exchanger 3 togethr with steam 2 at 200°C, heated by heat exchange for hot waste gas 4, and fed to a shift converter 5. In the converter 5 CO is converted into CO2 and H2 by reaction with H2O, they enter a reaction separator 7, and H2 enters a passage 7-2 preferentially through a porous glass film 11. This gas having an increased H2 concn. is fed to a passage 13-1 of a separator 13, and H2 enters a passage 13-2 preferentially through a porous glass film 14. The resulting H2-rich gas is fed to a heat exchanger 19, cooled, and supplied to a utilization place. The residual gas having a reduced H2 content is fed to a separator 20, and it is returned to the separator 7 again after increasing the H2 concn. through a porous glass film 21.
