CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with a horizontal synchronizing separator 12 for separating a horizontal synchronizing signal from a reproducing video signal 11, a synchronizing space detector 13 for deriving a horizontal synchronizing space from this horizontal synchronizing signal and detecting a running speed of a tape, a controlling waveform generator 15 for controlling the displacement of a video reproducing head to a saw tooth waveform having an inclination corresponding to the running speed of a tape, which has been detected, and a tracking controller 14 for automatically controlling a tracking state against a video track of the video reproducing head in the proximity of an optimum value. In this state, each control signal sent out from the controlling waveform generator 15 for controlling the displacement of the video reproducing head, and the tracking controller 14 for controlling the tracking state is mixed, and the displacement of the video reproducing head 2 is controlled by the mixed control signal.
