Abstract
PURPOSE: A fluorescent lamp emitting green light in which the fluorescent layer of a specifically composed fluoresent substance of a divalent metal borate activated with Ce and Tb with fine particle sizes is formed on the inner surface of a glass tube, thus causing no reduction in reflux even when the application of the fluorescent substance is reduced.
CONSTITUTION: A boron compound, which is readily convertible into its oxide at elevated temperature such as boric acid, a magnesium compound such as MgO, a cerium compound such as CeO2, and a terbium compound such as Tb4O7 are mixed and precalcined at 400W800°C, then calcined at 800W1,100°C in a reductive atmosphere. Then, the product is crushed, washed, sieved to give a divalent metal borate fluorescent substance activated with Ce and Tb, which has a composition of the formula (MIis Mg, Be, Zn, Cd; MIIis Ca, Sr, Ba; 0<a≤2.0; 0≤x≤0.25; 0<y≤0.4; 0.0001≤z≤0.4) and average particle sizes of 1.5W10 microns. The resultant fluorescent substance is applied to the inner surface of a glass tube to give the objective fluorescent lamp.
