Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst for gas-phase oxidation which is excellent in selectively and yield as well as moldability and strength, by using a heteropoly acid having a salt crystal structure as the main component.
CONSTITUTION: As a catalyst to be use in the manufacture of oxidation products such as methacrylic acid by the catalytic gas-phase oxidation of a 4C unsaturated hydrocarbon (e.g., isobutylene) and/or an alcohol (e.g., tert-butanol) and/or a saturated aliphatic aldehyde (e.g., isobutyr-aldehyde) and/or an unsaturated aliphatic aldehyde (e.g., methacrolein), a heteropoly acid having salt crystal structure, e.g, molybdic acid, is used. The catalyst has a high selectively and a high yield as well as a high moldability and a high machanical strength.
