Abstract

PURPOSE: To dig a trench for burying submarine piping with laying of submarine pipes by employing a trencher equipped with a cutter aligned with the vertical center line of the pipes, guided by a submarine pipe drawn out from a laying ship to the sea bottom and adapted to be operated from the ship.
CONSTITUTION: A trencher is mounted on a submarine pipe 3 drawn out from a laying ship 2 in a manner wherein the trencher is suspended by a crane 18, a connecting pin 1d is pulled out to open the upper frame 1b as shown by phantom lines and the upper frame 1b is closed with a submarine pipe 3 embraced between the upper and the lower frame. Then, a towrope 11 is drawn out by a winch 19 until the trencher reach digging position on the sea bottom. In this state, the laying ship 2 advances while the cutter 5 is operated and pipes are drawn out so that the pipes 3 are laid in the burying trench (a) as the burying trench (a) is digged. The soil digged out by the trencher is discharged to the side of the trencher by a suction type soil remover.
