Abstract

1286522 Pipe laying under the sea bed NEDERLANDSE MAATSCHAPPIJ VOOR WERKEN BUITENGAATS (NETHERLANDS OFFSHORE CO) NV 4 Sept 1970 [9 Sept 1969] 44473/69 Heading F2P [Also in Division H2] A pipe-line 1, cable, or the like, is buried in the sea bed 12, the method including loosening the soil in the sea bed region, lowering the pipeline into the loosened soil region and vibrating loose soil on top of the pipe-line to compact the soil and hold the pipe-line in place. The pipe-line 1 is initially laid on the sea bed surface 2, and a trencher 4 loosens the soil, allowing the pipe-line to sink below the surface, and held in position by the weight of the trencher. Torpedo-shaped vibrators 6, 7, 8 towed by the trencher 4, and pneumatically or hydraulically operated, vibrate the soil at different levels as shown to compact the soil. The vibrators 6, 7, 8, may be independent of the trencher 4.
