Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a material for press molding having improved flow properties in mold and drape to mold, by using a mat-shaped material prepared by bending glass fiber bundles previously cut in a specific length and by pilling them as a glass fiber reinforcement.
CONSTITUTION: A grate number of glass fibers (preferably a thickness of 10W 17μ) are provided with greige goods (e.g., one comprising vinyl acetate, etc.), and preferably 500W2,000 fibers are bundled. The fiber bundles are cut in length of 0.6W3mm, and, for example, they are dropped on a conveyor and piled (a piled amount is preferably 400W3,600g/m2). The glass fiber bundles are bent randomly, piled on the conveyor, and made into a mat-shaped stat. 100pts.wt. of this mat-shaped material is impregnated with 40W570pts.wt. liquid thermosetting resin (e.g., unsaturated polyester resin), and the viscosity of the resin is increased (magnesium oxide is preferable as a viscosity builder), to give the material for press molding.
