Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve degassing efficiency and a performance characteristic by suspending the degassing current by certain periods after a negative electrode has received 100% of its theoretical degassing electricity and an electrolyte temperature has reached 50 deg.C or more during degassing of a lead battery. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte, with a specific gravity so as to result in the predetermined specific gravity when degassing is completed, is injected in a lead battery built with electrodes which have not been treated for degassing. After the electrolyte has permeated into the electrodes thoroughly, a certain degassing current, derived from a degassing electricity equal to 270-320% of a theoretical degassing electricity of the negative electrode devided by a degassing time (40- 45hr), is applied. When the degassing electricity applied has reached 100% of the theoretical degassing electricity of the negative electrode and the electrolyte temperature of this battery has reached 50 deg.C or more, the degassing current is suspended intermittently (2-10min/cycle), thus a temperature rise is avoided and the degassing is performed under a constant current.
