Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a separator, which improves the electrolyte holding rate at the bottom of a cylindrical part and prevents any short circuit which might be caused at the bottom of the cylindrical part, by rolling non-woven fabrics into spirally laminated structure, and fusing an end of the cylindrical body so as to form a unified smooth bottom. CONSTITUTION:A first, a second and a third original paper are prepared by cutting a non-woven fabric, which is made of a synthetic resin and has a good liquid-absorbing ability, into ribbon-like shapes with given dimensions. After the first paper 16 is rolled into spiral form in such a manner that parts of the opposite sides of the paper 16 thrust each other, the second paper 17 is rolled into spiral form and affixed around the paper 16 so that the seams 19 of the paper 16 are covered with the paper 17. Next, the third paper 18 is rolled into spiral form and affixed around the paper 17, thus a cylindrical shape is obtained. An opening end of thus obtained cylindrical part 13 is folded inward while it is heated to a given temperature so as to make only the folded part to be molten and undergo ironing, thereby forming a closed smooth bottom 14. After that, an inorganic liquid 15 is applied on the surface of the bottom 14.
