Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce speckle noises by inserting an elastic surface wave element between the semiconductor laser and a reflector and coupling beams from the other side of the semiconductor laser with the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The output beams to the reverse side to the optical fiber 7 of the semiconductor laser 1 oscillating at a single wavelength are coupled with the reflector 6 through a lens 2. A transparent piezo-electric substrate 3 with a reed screen-shaped electrode 4 is inserted between the lens 2 and the reflector 6 at that time. When voltage is applied to the electrode 4 by a high-frequency power supply circuit 5, elastic surface waves are generated. When laser beams are transmitted to the substrate 3 where the elastic surface waves are generated, the phase of the laser beams is modulated. Accordingly, the laser 1 oscillating originally at a single wavelength is oscillated at a large number of stable wavelengths, and the speckle noises are reduced when the output beams of the laser 1 are combined with the optical fiber 7.
