Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide an optical fiber communication device which can oscillate optimum wave length effectively and connect it to an optical fiber at a minimum loss, by optical excitation of a YAG crystal using a semiconductor laser, by outputting by laser oscillation only at a oscillation wavelength suitable to optical fiber communication and by connecting the output light to the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The exciting light of a semiconductor laser 1 is radiated to an Nd:YAG crystal 3 through a lens 2. On the edge surface of YAG crystal 3, 1.32mum light wave is reflected and a dichroism coat 4 is formed which is permeable through 0.808mum light wave. The dichroism coat is formed of a dielectric multilayer film. In an optical cavity of the YAG laser, an etalon (1.064mum AR coat) 5 which transmits only the light wave of 1.32mum wavelength is interposed between the YAG crystal 3 and a dichroism mirror 6 which semitransmits 1.32mum light wave and reflects 0.808mum light wave. Optical fiber (quartz fiber) as a light transmission path is linked with the optical cavity matching the 1.3mum+ or -30nm wavelength, which is optimum for the optical fiber communication light source, to the small loss wavelength region of the transmission path, the so-called window.
