Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve efficient auto loading by detecting the optimum speed V1 at which a leader type is fed out of a cartridge and the optimum speed V2 at which it passes through a tape path, and feeding a tape at the V1 up to some position, afterward at the V2. CONSTITUTION:A detector consists of, e.g., a mirror 7 inside of a tape and an assembly 9 of a light emitting element and a photodetecting element provided to a block 8 opposed to an upper channel. When a leader tape passes, the presence of the tape is detected and the detection signal is fed back to a microprogram control part a tape driving circuit to control the turning of a reel motor so as to change the feed speed of the motor from the optimum speed V1 for feeding the tape out of a cartridge to the optimum speed V2 at which the tape passes through a tape path. Consequently, auto loading is achieved efficiently and accurately to secure the high-speed efficient operation of the magnetic tape.
