Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a friction modifier having improved heat resistance and thermal conductivity while retaining an effect which is obtd. by cashew dust, by blending a specified amount of coke powder with cashew dust. CONSTITUTION:On the way of the production stage of cashew dust (a stage where cashew nut shell oil is thermally polymerized in the presence of an acid catalyst such as sulfuric acid and then the product and an aldehyde are subjected to an addition condensation reaction), 40-100wt% (based on the amount of cashew nut shell oil) coke powder (pref. one obtd. by calcining coke at 1,100-1,200 deg.C and finely crushing calcined product to 60-350 mesh) is added. The mixture is kneaded by using a kneader to cover coke powder with cashew dust, whereby a modified friction material can be obtd.
