Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the α-alumina type catalyst carrier with high strength and excellent abrasion resistance by a method wherein a magnesium compound is added to an alumina powder prepared by dehydrating alumina hydrate and, after granulation, curing, drying and firing are carried out.
CONSTITUTION: To the alumina powder obtained by dehydrating alumina hydrate, a magnesium compound such as MgO, MgCO3 or the like is added and, after mixing, the obtained mixture is granulated. After the granulated substance is calcined, it is cured, dried and fired to obtain the α-alumina type catalyst carrier. Because the resulting α-alumina type catalyst carrier has high strength and is excellent in abrasion resistance, it is suitable for an exhaust gas purifying catalyst of an automobile or the like.
