Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent jumping shift from the high-speed position into low-speed position by providing a locking mechanism which hinders the turn from the high- speed position to low-speed position upon sensing the running condition.
CONSTITUTION: This locking mechanism 18 is composed of a locking piece 19 arranged facing to the circumference of the shift drum 8 and a notch 20 excavated in the circumference of the shift drum 8 in such an arrangement that the tip of said locking piece 19 is detained by this notch when the turn of the drum is in the direction from high-speed position to low-speed position, i.e. counterclockwise, where the locking piece 19 is fitted on the center boss 21 spline-engaged with the output shaft 6 in such a way as free to slide and this is frictionally engaged with the center boss 21 through a friction spring 22. On the locking piece 19, an inclined cam 23 is formed in such an arrangement that it comes into contact with the end wall of the notch 20 to actuate the locking piece 19 into a swinging motion when the shift drum 8 is rotated with its tip free from pushing force.
