Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal light valve reduced in the number of signal electrodes to a half by a printer wherein a glass substrate equipped with two common electrodes is disposed to cross and face another glass substrate equipped with a plurality of signal electrodes and a time shared signal is applied to those two common electrodes. CONSTITUTION:In a liquid crystal light valve (liquid crystal shutter cell) used in a signal modulation light irradiating system for a printer wherein a light signal is irradiated on a light conductor and this is developped with tonors so as to obtain picture informations, for instance, a substrate equipped with two common electrodes 401, 402 is disposed to cross and face another substrate equipped with a plurality (4 lines in the illustration) of signal electrodes 403-406. In such arrangement, with each of the signal electrodes 403-406 including two micro shutters 410, 411, it is possible to form the same number micro shutters as the conventional valve even with the halved number of electrodes. These electrodes are used to drive the micro shutters in a time sharing manner with duty ratio of 1/2.
