Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal light valve wherein a substrate equipped with common signal electrodes halved into the linear form is disposed to cross and face a substrate equipped with specially shaped signal electrodes so that micro shutters are arrayed in the zigzag form. CONSTITUTION:In a liquid crystal light valve (liquid crystal shutter cell) used in a signal modulation light irradiating system for a printer wherein a light signal is irradiated on a light conductor and this is developped with tonors so as to obtain picture informations, for instance, a substrate equipped with common signal electrodes 401, 402 halved into the linear form is disposed to cross and face another substrate equipped with a plurality of signal electrodes 403-406. The signal electrodes 403-406 are arranged on the latter substrate in such a manner that the parts crossing and facing a gap between the common signal electrodes 401, 402 interrupt the light. Thus arranged signal electrodes are driven in a time sharing manner with duty ratio of 1/2. Moreover, the signal electrodes are preferably arrayed in the interdigital form.
