Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the setting of binary-coding processing mode by storing an ROM with gradations which correspond to picture elements in a main and a subordinate scanning direction and comparison data classified by densities, and reading and processing the data by a gradation and a density indication signal. CONSTITUTION:The output of a picture-element address specifying circuit ACC consisting of a subordinate scanning counter CO1 and a main scanning counter CO2 is supplied to an address switching circuit AEC. The AEC inputs a gradaiion control signal and density indication signals to generate the address data of an ROMDMD2. The DMD2 is stored with three kinds of gradation processing comparison-level data which correspond to densities, and three kinds of comparison-level data for simple binary-coding processing and they are read selectively by an address from the AEC and inputted to a D/A converter DA. To the reference voltage terminal of the DA, the output of a circuit PHC which detects and holds the peak value of a picture signal is supplied, and a DA-converted signal is amplified and applied to a comparator CPA for binary coding. The CPA performs the binary coding in conformity with the density of an original picture according to the peak value of an analog picture signal.
