Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate the detection of the molten steel level with a picture high in th contrast obtained by converting the temperature of a powder scattered on the surface of molten steel and peripheral objects into the level of video signals of an infrared rays camera device. CONSTITUTION:Molten steel 3 in a tundish 1 is injected into a cylindrical molding device 6 through a dipping nozzle 2. The liquid surface 4 of the molten steel 3 is covered with a powder 7 to prevent the oxidation thereof 3. An infrared rays camera device 8 is used to takes picture near the liquid surface 4 thereby detecting the level thereof 4. A spectral radiation flux is taken in the area of infrared rays from the powder 7 on the liquid surface of the molten steel 3 and objects including the molding device 6 and the dipping nozzle 2 thereabout thereby afforlding a picture with a brightness according to the temperature distribution.
