Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the rupture of a rod or a breakage of a die, by limiting the reduction of area to be given by the first die to ≤5%, in a manufacturing method for a ribbon from such a high melting point metallic rod as of tungsten.
CONSTITUTION: A rod is drawn successively through a die group comprising plural dies having rectangular die holes arranged in series; hereby, a ribbon in a prescribed condition is prepared. If a die of the first stage has a rectangular die hole whose two sides are proportioned so as to give ≥5% reduction of area to the rod, an excessive large stress is generated in the rod or in the die. For the purpose of preventing such an excessive large stress, the shape of the die hole of the first die is desirable to be arranged as follows; if the rod diameter is taken as D, length of one side of the die hole is made ≥1.05D and another side is made 0.90W0.97D. The reduction of area by the second and following dies may be taken as 10W30%.
