Abstract

PURPOSE: To deepen penetration and to improve weld strength considerably by providing grooves beforehand to the end faces of high m.p. metals to be welded and welding these metals from the outer side of the leading end.
CONSTITUTION: Grooves 6, 7 are provided respectively to two high m.p. metallic members, for example, Mo materials 4, 5. Both these grooves 6, 7 are of, for example, a semicircular shape in respective sections, and are provided on the side inner than one end of the materials 4, 5, and to the end faces to be welded. Both grooves 6, 7 are in opposite positions. The materials 4, 5 are aligned at one end, and the end faces to be welded are adhered tightly and are welded by means of a welding electrode 8. At this time, the leading ends of the materials 4, 5 are of not open but close type unlike conventional V-grooves. Thereby, sufficient molten metal is obtained without using of a filler rod, penetration is made deep and weld strength is improved considerably.
