Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain titled vinyl ester with high thickening potential while maintaining its inherent properties of excellence by carrying out the reaction, with a diisocyanate and a dibasic acid anhydride, of a vinyl ester prepared from an epoxy resin and an unsaturated monobasic acid.
CONSTITUTION: For example, to (A) a vinyl ester prepared from an epoxy resin with an epoxy equivalent of 80W300 (pref. a bisphenolic one) and an unsaturated monobasic acid (e.g., acrylic acid), (B) a diisocyanate (e.g., phenylene diisocyanate) is added so that the amount of the isocyanate is pref. 0.3W0.8 equivalent per equivalent of the hydroxyl group of said vinyl ester (A), followed by carry- ing out a reaction pref. at ordinary temperature W 120°C to obtain an urethane- condensed vinyl ester. (C) a dibasic acid anhydride (e.g., phthgelic anhydride) is then added to the resulting ester so that the amount of the anhydride (C) is 0.6W 1.1 equivalent per equivalent of the hydroxyl group of the ester to accomplish a reaction pref. at 50W120°C, thus obtaining the objective vinyl ester.
