Abstract

PURPOSE: To properly control the choke valve opening according to the engine warm-up so that the air/fuel ratio does not exceed the limit for the mixture leanness during engine warm-up in the breaker for opening the carburetor choke valve by the intake manifold vacuum.
CONSTITUTION: As the engine starts, the diaphragm 9 is operated by the action of the intake vacuum until it goes into contact with the rod 11 and rotates the lever 5 clockwise via the link 7 so that the choke valve 2 opens to the primary open position. Then the intake vacuum which has been delayed by the delay mechanism 15 works on the diaphragm 16 so that the lever 6 not moved by the primary operation is turned clockwise to further open the choke valve to the secondary open position. As the temperature of coolant such as cooling water rises, the thermo valve 14 opens and the intake vacuum works on the diaphragm 10 to obtain the final choke opening. That is to say that since the choke valve is caused to open at least in three steps, the air/fuel ratio will never exceed the limits for the mixture leanness and richness during engine warm-up.
