Abstract

PURPOSE:To analyze both ionized calcium and total calcium, by measuring calcium- containing live body fluid specimens of a concentration being above pH7 and also of a concentration being adjusted to pH4-6, by using an ion selecting electrode for detection of calcium. CONSTITUTION:A reference liquid 11 and serum specimens 12-14 which were sucked in alternately from a nozzle 16 are made to pass through a pipe 17 and led to a measuring chamber of a flow cell section 1 where these specimens contact an ion selecting electrode 3 and a reference electrode 5, and a potential is detected. In the flow passage, all the specimens are separated by the reference liquid and transferred. Concentration of the serum specimen in the flow cell section 1 is approximately pH7.4. And then, these specimens reach a pipe 20 to join a buffer solution 23, mixed up by a mixing coil 22 and finally get to a measuring chamber 8 of a flow cell section 2. A potential between a diluted liquid specimen and the reference liquid is detected by contact with a calcium ion electrode 4 and a reference electrode 6, and the specimen is discharged from a pipe 21. Concentration of the liquid in the flow cell section 2 is approximately 4.8pH. Informations of ionized calcium and total calcium, which are based on the flow cells 1 and 2, are recorded.
