Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the operating cost in incineration and detoxify inorganic toxic substances, by melting chlorides discharged from the respective steps of an incinerating apparatus for wastes at a high temperature, washing HC1 gas generated in the melting stage with an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid, and recovering the resultant HCl gas.
CONSTITUTION: Dust discharged from an incinerator 3, a waste heat boiler 5 and a dust collector 6 and a neutralized salt produced in a toxic gas removing apparatus 7 are collected in a melting furnace 12 and molten. The melting temperature is increased to 1,250°C or above to decompose most of the chlorides in the materials charged into the furnace 12 into HCl gas. The resultant residue is dropped as a molten slag into a slag pit 14 and then delivered by a conveyor 15 as a solid slag. The discharged gas from the furnace 12 is passed through an afterburning chamber 16, and heat is recovered in an air preheater 17. The gas is then absorbed in a circulating solution of an unsaturated aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid in a hydrochloric acid recovering column 18. The circulating solution is partially purified in a hydrochloric acid purifying column 22 and stored in a hydrochloric acid tank 23.
