Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect build-up of frost on the chiller of a refrigerator directly and in a linear configuration, by comparing a detected output of a light having passed a detecting rod which is made of light-pervious material, and a reference voltage. CONSTITUTION:An incident light P1 from a luminous element 1, while reflecting on interface of a detecting rod 3 which is made of light-pervious materials such as plastic and glass, etc., proceeds in the detecting rod 3 and enters a light- receiving element 2. As the frost building up around the detecting rod 3 grows, a leakage of light DELTAP increases, and therefore, an amount of light emission P2 to the light-receiving element 2 decreases. An output of the light-receiving element 2 is compared by a comparator 5 with a reference voltage which was set by a reference voltage setting circuit 7 through a current-voltage converter 4, and when this differential voltage e0 became a value corresponding to a prescribed volume of frost build-up, an output circuit 6 operates to start alarming or defrosting. It is possible, by so doing, to ensure detection of frost build-up.
