Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an abrasion resistant layer formed uniformly with holes by forming the holes as oil wells for the abrasion resistant plating layer applied on a metal surface through elution of Zn of an Ni-Zn plating layer.
CONSTITUTION: Ni-Zn composite electroplating dispersed with abrasion resistant particles of SiC, TiC, etc. is applied on the surface of metallic members such as cylinders and the like of internal combustion engines where high degrees of abrasion resistance and lubricity are required. The plating layer mingled approximately uniformly with intermetallic compounds such as NiZn3 and Ni5Zn21 and the abrasion resistant particles is formed in this way, after which the members are immersed in an alkali soln. of NaOH or the like. Only the Zn in the intermetallic compounds is eluted in the alkali soln., and the recesses formed by this elution are used as oil wells.
