Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled relatively inexpensive steel having superior corrosion resistance to a caustic alkali soln. and superior erosion resistance and enabling the manufacture of apparatus parts with large cross-sectional area by adding a large amount of Cr, a relatively small amount of Ni and a relatively large amount of N.
CONSTITUTION: The titled stainless steel is composed of, by wt., ≤0.08% C, ≤ ≤1.5% Si, 1.5% Mn, ≤0.03% P, 3W5% Ni, 30W36% Cr, 0.3W0.6% N and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. Since this steel contains 30W36% Cr, it shows sufficient corrosion resistance in the severe environment of a concn. process, etc. in the manufacture of caustic alkali by an asbestos diaphragm electrolytic method, an ion exchange membrane electrolytic method or other method. A Cr-rich inactive film is formed, so superior erosion resistance to a slurry of alkali chloride, etc. as well as corrosion resistance is obtd.
