Abstract

PURPOSE:To accurately detect the amplitude and direction of track shift, by recording a plurality of pilot signals with different frequencies at each track on a main information signal superimposingly, and detecting the pilot signals at playback at variable band filters. CONSTITUTION:Pilot signals with different frequencies are recorded at each track by superimposing with video signals on a magnetic tape. A playback signal from a playback head 19 is given to a preamplifier 20 and an FM demodulation circuit 21 and a video signal is demodulated 22. On the other hand, the demodulation signal is applied to a horizontal synchronizing signal separating circuit 23, and the separated horizontal synchronizing signal is applied to phase comparators 24a, 24b. When a control signal is applied to frequency dividers 27a, 27b constituting a PLL from a control circuit 30, a clock signal with different frequency is applied to variable band filters 31, 32 from voltage controlled oscillators 26a, 26b. The output is applied to level detectors 33, 34 and a differential amplifier 35 to output 36 a track shift detecting voltage. Thus, the amplitude and direction of track shift can be detected accurately.
