Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize the detection for the knocking of an internal combustion engine with simple constitution and high accuracy, by detecting the differential pressure produced by eliminating the pressure of the static cooling water from the composite pressure of the pressure of the static cooling water and the pulsating pressure which works in response to the knocking. CONSTITUTION:With occurrence of knocking, the cylinder wall surface has a distortion to produce the pulsating pressure to the cooling water. Then the pulsating pressure and the pressure of the static cooling water are applied to the lower surface of a diaphragm 203a of a distortion meter via a diaphragm 205 and a noncompressive liquid 215. On the other hand, the same pressure is applied to a compressive material member 209 via a pressure lead-in hole 208, and the pulsating pressure is absorbed to the member 209. Then the pressure of the static cooling water is applied to the upper surface of the diaphragm 203a via the liquid 215 to be eliminated by a differential pressure process. In such way, only the pulsating pressure corresponding to the knocking is detected through a simple constitution to ensure the knocking detection with high accuracy.
