Abstract

PURPOSE:To make is possible to adjust the cross-sectional area of a passage and as well the initial load of a valve spring at the same time by forming in a spherical shape a rotary valve for regulating the flow rate of damping oil and by changing the stroke of a valve member in dependance upon the size of a selected oil passage. CONSTITUTION:The fitting position of a valve member 24 is shifted to the front and the valve element itself is moved back by a distance (l) overcoming against a valve spring 25 for compressing the spring 25 to the distance (l), when the rotary valve 19 is actuated through a groove 32 so that the fitting of the valve element 24 is changed from a large diameter passage (c) to a small diameter passage C. The initial load of the valve spring 25 is lincreased, corresponding to the distance (l) of the movement of the valve member 24. Accordingly, the damping force having a square characteristic due to the decrease in the area of the passage C and the increase in the initial load of the spring 25 may be obtained when the valve member 24 is fully opened.
