Abstract

PURPOSE: To utilize N2 effectively as energy for air cooling and adiabatic expansion processes by supplying low temp. pressurized air to an adsorption tower and causing adiabatic expansion of the N2 removed therefrom in adsorption and separation of air by a pressure swing method.
CONSTITUTION: Raw material air is passed through a booster 29, a water cooling type aftercooler 30 and a heat exchanger 28, by which it is cooled. and fed into an adsorption tower 21, where O2 is adsorbed on an adsorbent. The remaining concd. N2 is then delivered into an expansion turbine 33 so that the turbine 33 is driven by the pressure of the N2. The pressure and temp. of the expanded N2 are reduced and this N2 enters a heat exchanger 28 as a refrigerant, where it accomplishes heat exchange with air to cool the air, after which it is fed to a prescribed place through an N2 discharge line. At this time, desorption and regenerateion are executed in another adsorption tower 22.
