Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce an ultrathin film easily and continuously by supplying a soln. of a high polymer material to the surface of supporting liqud at a constant speed, and developing the same thereby allowing the film of the high polymer material to deposit then pulling up by a flexible supporting body. CONSTITUTION:A soln. 3 consisting of a high polymer material and a volatile solvent is supplied continuously at a constant speed on supporting liquid 5 by means of a liquid feed pump consisting of a constant speed motor 1, a cylinder 2 and a piston 2'. This liquid 5 is partially soluble or insoluble in the above- mentioned solvent. The supplied soln. 3 is developed immediately on the surface of the liquid 4 by the surface tension with the liquid 5 and is evaporated of the solvent or dissolved in the liqud 5, thereby forming a high polymer material film 11. The ultrathin film 11 with desired thickness is formed by properly controlling the flow speed of the soln. 3, the speed of a roller 7, the moving speed of the liquid 5 by an auxiliary roller 10, and the solvent recovery rate from the soln. 3. This film 11 is pulled up by a flexible and inert supporting body 8. The film 11 is taken up on a roller 9 as a flat-plate like body 8' formed in one body with the body 8.
