Abstract

Starting a continuous casting appts. between rolls producing aluminium or aluminium alloy strips with a thickness of 4.5 mm or less comprises: (a) placing a level sensor (21) in the container (11) feeding the central zone of the nozzle (12); (b) placing one or more removable dams (14) between the container (11) and the central zone of the nozzle (12); (c) preheating the container (11) and the central zone of the nozzle (12); (d) preheating the rolls (51) of the casting device; (e) starting the rotation of the rolls (51); (f) starting the feeding of the liq. metal; (g) opening the dam(s) (14) when the liq. metal reaches a given level in the container (11); (h) regulating the level of liq. metal in the container (11); and (i) adjusting the position of the nozzle in order to maintain a constant distance between the lips (13) of the nozzle and the rolls (51). Also claimed is the device used to put the above process continuous casting into service.
