Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A benzopyran derivative of the formula (R is straight chain or branched alkyl; n is an integer 0W5) and an acid addition salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: 3,4-Dihydro-8-[(2-hydroxy-3-isopropylamino)propoxy)]-3-nitratomethyl- 2H-1-benzopyran.
USE: A remedy for circulatory diseases, useful for treating and preventing hypertension, angina pectoris, arrhythmia, cerebral, cardiac and peripheral circulation disorder, cardiac infarction, etc. and further useful as a diuretic, etc.
PROCESS: The OH group at the 8-position in 3,4-dihydro-8-hydroxy-3-hydroxymethyl-2H-1-benazopyran is protected, and the resultant compound is then reacted with fuming nitric acid and acetic anhydride to convert the hydroxymethyl group at the 3-position into a nitratomethyl group. The protecting group at the 8-position is then removed, and a necessary group is introduced thereinto to give the aimed compound of the formula.
