Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a glass blank material having three-dimensional refractive index distributions inexpensively with high quality by using the porous glass obtd. by treating an aq. soln. contg. silicic acid and subjecting this to molecular stuffing.
CONSTITUTION: An aq. soln. contg. silicic acid is prepd. and if necessary, an inorg. or org. compound is contained therein. This is neutralized to control its pH to about 4W6 and is geled. The gel body consisting of the porous silica by this gelation as its skeleton is subjected to leaching in a temp. range from room temp. to boiling point by using alcohol, ketone, an org. acid, etc., whereby salts and the like which are excess compounds are removed. Thence, the porous glass is immersed in an aq. CsNo3 soln. Thereafter, the pressure is reduced slowly to allow the org. compound to evaporate and further the glass is heated in a vacuum to decompose the compounds to oxide. It is then heated to high temps., and fine pores are crushed under the effect of surface tension, whereby the transparent glass is made.
