Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a photoconductive member resistant to all the environmental conditions, and superior in long wavelength side photosensitivity characteristics, by laminating a first barrier layer, a charge generating layer and a charge transfer layer both composed of a specified amorphous material using silicon as a basic material on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A charge generating layer 104 for generating mobile photocarriers upon irradiation of electromagnetic waves, a charge transfer layer 105 for effectively transferring the photocarriers, and a first barrier layer 102, interposed between a substrate 101 and the layer 104, for inhibiting injection of free carriers and passing the photocarriers to the substrate 101 side during irradiation of electromagnetic waves are provided on the substrate 101. The layers 104, 105 contain hydrogen or/and halogen atoms, and are composed of an amorphous silicon as a basic material, and the layer 104 contains 1X10<-1>-10 atomic % impurities governing its conduction type, thus permitting the obtained photoconductive member to be stable in electrical, optical, and photoconductive characteristics, resistant to all the environmental conditions, and superior in long wavelength side photosensitivity characteristics, and further, freed of deterioration even after repeated uses, and remaining potential observed.
