Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the catalyst body suitable for an oilstove or the like which is excellent in lightness and mechanical strength and has enhanced gas purifying capacity in a small catalyst amount obtained by carrying a metallic catalyst on short fiber aggregation comprising alumina, silica or the like.
CONSTITUTION: A short fiber with an average diameter of 5μm or less and a length of 30mm or less is formed in a constitutional ratio based on about 20W 80wt% alumina and about 20W80wt% silica. This short fiber is gathered and molded and, on the molded body, a colloidal solution or an inorg. binder such as calcium aluminate or the like is coated and the coated molded body is aged or dried. On said obtained carrier, a compound of a metal comprising one or more of an element of a platinum group is carried in a form of a solution or the like and fired. Thereby, a carrier surface becomes porous and the catalyst body with enhanced gas purifying capacity in a small catalyst amount is obtd.
