Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a good desired visible image by suppressing physical development with a photodecomposable compound having a diazo or triazo group. CONSTITUTION:A hydrophilic binder layer 2 containing a metallic compound becoming metallic development nuclei on reduction, and a diazo or triazo group is formed on a substrate 1 to provide an image-forming material, which is patternwise exposed, and brought into contact with a reductant to form metallic developing nuclei, thus completing the first developing step. Then, the material is brought into contact with a physical developing solution containing reduceable metallic ions and the reductant to form an image consisting of metallic particles depositing and growing from the reduceable metallic ions on their reduction on said nuclei, thus completing the second developing step. Since said compound does not decompose in the undeveloped area, the physical development is suppressed. Use of a reducing agent fast against the physical developing solution permits the first and the second developing steps to be carried out at the same time.
