Abstract
PURPOSE:To form an image, by suppressing physical development with a compound having a photodecomposable diazo or azide group. CONSTITUTION:A hydrophilic binder layer 2 containing finely divided metallic developing nuclei and a compound having a diazo or azide group is provided on a substrate 1 to form an image-forming material, which is patternwise exposed, and brought into contact with a developing solution containing reducible metallic ions and a reductant to obtain an image formed by depositing metallic particles on the developing nuclei on the exposed area and growing them. The unexposed area does not form an image because of suppression of physical development. Considering that the diazo or azide compound causes no decomposition due to light after the physical development, some chemical change must have occurred. A double salt of p-N, N-diethylaminobenzenediazonium chloride and zinc chloride, and p-azidebenzaldehyde, etc. are embodied as the diazo or azide compound.
