Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the inspection of a noncircular gear, by a method wherein an engaging movement of a gear and a rack tooth-shaped measuring point is compared with a rolling movement, of a template mounted coaxially with the gear, and of a rule, which is conducted without slippage by means of magnets. CONSTITUTION:An engagement movement of a noncircular gear and a measuring point equivalent to a rack tooth shape is compared with a movement in which a pitch curve or basic curve-shaped template, being mounted coaxially with the gear, is caused to roll without slippage by means of a magnet. For example, a noncircular gear 1 and a template 2, having a profile being equal to a pitch circle, are mounted coaxially with a shaft 20. Through the working of a slide 6 and a weight 16, the former engages a rack tooth-shaped measuring point 4, and the latter is caused to roll along a straight rule 3 without slippage through the function of magnets 21 and 19. In case there is an error in the gear shape, a relative movement between slides 10 and 11 is created, and thereby the use of an indicator or the like permits the detection thereof.
