Abstract

PURPOSE:To automatically prevent the runaway of a CPU, by providing a timer that is reset by a timer reset instruction and delivering the detection of a runaway in case no timer reset instruction is received for a prescribed period of time from the resetting of the timer. CONSTITUTION:A timer reset instruction is delivered from an output OUT of a CPU1 with every step of a program executed to be applied to a reset input (r) of a self-running timer 2. The timer 2 runs by itself by the clock which is applied to a clock input cl from a clock input terminal 4 to produce a CPU reset signal at its output after having an overflow in the lapse of a prescribed time as long as the next timer reset instruction is not supplied for a prescribed period after a timer reset instruction is delivered. In other words, no timer reset instruction is applied from the output OUT when the CPU1 has a runaway, and accordingly the timer 2 has an overflow in a prescribed period. Then the CPU reset signal is produced from the output of the timer 2, and the CPU1 is reset via an OR gate 3.
