Abstract
PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for phase separation process and to increase the contact areas between an aqueous soln. and a nonaqueous soln. by extracting solvents through liquid-liquid contact by the use of hollow yarn diaphragms.
CONSTITUTION: When an aqueous soln. 1 contg. solute M is flowed into the spaces 2 in hollow yarn membranes, liquid 3 having nonmixing property with water contg. carriers forming complex with this solute is flowed into the sapces other than the aqueous soln. 1, that is, external spaces 3 and the fine pore spaces in porous membranes 1. For example, a module having 20cm effective fiber length is made by bundling 1,000 pieces of porous polypropylene hollow yarn membranes of 230μ inside diameter and 25μ membrane thickness having membrane structure of, for example, 0.12μ average pore size, 46% porosities, and ≥10kg/cm2 water permeation pressure. As supply water, 200ml an aqueous copper sulfate soln. contg. 0.2wt% Cu+2 ions of 2.7pH is circulated in the membranes at 40ml/min. flow rate. Next, 500ml a xylene soln. contg. 5wt% Li×65N (a mixture of about 1% Li× 63N and about 99% Li×65N) is circulated into the external spaces at 100ml/min. flow rate. As a result, the copper ions in the xylene soln. are extracted 0.35g after one hour of operation.
