Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the overoxidation of the surface of a steel strip by providing a both end-open type tube in the coaxial imaginary extended line of a burner provided on the side wall of a heating furnace. CONSTITUTION:A steel strip 10 is continuously fed by a delivery roll 12 in a directly fired nonoxidative heating furnace 22. A fuel 15 and air 14 are mixed at a nonstoichiometric ratio (air ratio of 1 or less) and burned by a burner 13 provided on the side wall of the furnace 22. And, a both end-open type heat- resistant tube 11 is provided in the coaxial extended imaginary line of the burner 13 in such a way that combustion flame 16 formed is embraced, where the tube 11 is supported by a support 17 or a heat-resistant hanger 18. Thus, the steel strip 10 can be heated at a given temperature while being fed without its surface being overoxidized because unreactive oxygen present near or in the flame 16 does not directly come into contact with the surface of the steel strip 10.
