Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve a thermal head in radiating efficiency without increasing the area of the head substrate by providing a radiator on the side portion of a thermal head, forming a hollow portion extending through the substrate and the radiator and sealing a heat exchanging fluid in said hollow portion. CONSTITUTION:On the upper surface 4 of a substrate 3 of alumina or the like, a plurality of heating elements 5 are provided in a row. On the side surface 6 of said substrate 3, a radiator 7 made of a material of excellent thermal conductivity, such as aluminum, and having a thickness approximately equal to that of the substrate 3 is provided. A plurality of fins 8 and 8 are formed on the upper and lower surfaces of said radiator 7. A closed hollow portion 9 is formed in the latitudinal center of both the substrate 3 and the radiator 7, extending therethrough. A heat exchanging fluid such as water is sealed in the hollow portion 9. It is desirable to corrugate the circumferential wall of the hollow portion 9. Providing heating means in the hollow portion 9 can prevent the lowering of coloring density at starting in a cold district.
